Twins catcher Joe Mauer could be facing an extended stay on the bench, according to his manager Ron Gardenhire.

The reigning AL MVP, who has been sidelined with a bruised heel, could be week-to-week, rather than day-to-day, Gardenhire reported on Sunday.

Mauer is batting .345 with one homer and 13 RBIs in 22 games played, and took Saturday off to rest his bruised heel.
