Madison Square Garden is getting a new look.
According to the New York Post, the world's most famous arena will undergo a massive $850 million reconstruction over the next four years. Part of the plan includes adding up to 1,000 premium seats on sky bridges five stories off the ground.
"This is our signature element," Hank Ratner, CEO of Madison Square Garden, told the Post. "It will be a unique experience in sports and entertainment."
The building will be completely revamped from the bottom up, keeping the iconic exterior intact. Improvements include a wider lower concourse, new lower- and upper-level suites, plusher seats and a steeper angle for the bowl’s incline.
Construction is slated to begin on June 14, and most of the work will be done during the summer to avoid disrupting the Rangers or Knicks’ seasons. The first phase of the project is slated to be completed by 2011, and the sky bridges are scheduled for completion for the 2013-14 season.
