Nomar Garciaparra Excited to be Honored at Red Sox Game Nomar Garciaparra
will be honored prior to Wednesday’s game against the Angels as he moves into the retirement phase of his storied career.

Garciaparra, who played with Boston from 1996-2004, was thrilled to have a ceremony honoring him.

“I’m truly grateful for a day like this,” Garciaparra said on Wednesday’s edition of Red Sox Gameday Live. “It’s meant so much putting on this uniform to play on this field for so long.”

Garciaparra discussed several topics with NESN’s Heidi Watney, including his acrimonious departure from Boston midway through 2004. No. 5 said that while the departure was disappointing, it was also a business element of baseball, and what truly matters in the end is the human element.

And that’s what brought the Red Sox and Nomar back together.
