In a move that couldn't be classified as surprising, the Patriots have released cornerback Shawn Springs after just one season with the team.

The Patriots announced the move Tuesday, at the same time announcing the signing of sixth-round draft pick Ted Larsen to a contract.

Springs played in just 12 games for New England last year after signing a three-year deal in the offseason. He was left off the active roster for several games.

The team spent its first-round pick in April's draft on cornerback Devin McCourty out of Rutgers.
