Major League Baseball has issued a warning to the Philadelphia Phillies after bullpen coach Mick Billmeyer was caught on camera using binoculars from the bullpen bench at Coors Field earlier this week.
Phillies manager Charlie Manuel denied the accusations, telling The Associated Press that Billmeyer simply was watching Philadelphia catcher Carlos Ruiz set up defensively Monday night.
Video footage proves that Billmeyer was using binoculars to check on Colorado catcher Miguel Olivo while the Phillies were at bat in the top of the second inning.
The Rockies picked up on this and asked FSN Rocky Mountain to zoom in on the bullpen to catch Billmeyer in the act, which they did. Rockies manager Jim Tracy told crew chief Jerry Crawford, who spoke with Manuel between the first and second innings.
"We have looked at the video and talked to the Phillies about the actions of their bullpen coach," a Major League Baseball official told FOXSports.com. "We found the evidence inconclusive on what was being done, but we have spoken to the Phillies about the situation, and the umpires have been told to be on full alert as to what is going on."
