World Cup Day 8 Roundup: England's Draw Gives Team USA Chance To Move On With A Win Day 8 of the World Cup opened with a Group D shocker, giving Serbia an unexpected three points. They are now tied with Germany atop the standings with three points. The United States made an incredible comeback to keep its hopes of advancing alive.

Serbia 1, Germany 0
Germany’s Miroslav Klose was given a red card in the 36th minute, and Serbia quickly took advantage. Milos Krasic sent a cross from the right side into the box, and Nikola Zigic was able to knock it down and put a shot on net. The ball was deflected, but Milan Jovanovic volleyed it home past Germany goalkeeper Maneul Neuer for the game’s lone goal.

United States 2, Slovenia 2
It looked bleak for America, down 2-0 at halftime, but the U.S. made a comeback for the ages. Landon Donovan halved Slovenia’s two-goal lead in the 48th minute, ripping a high-angled shot above the head of the defender and goalkeeper standing nearly at the goalpost. Then Michael Bradley tied it up in the 82nd minute after a perfect header from Jozy Altidore found open space, and Bradley buried the loose ball. The U.S. nearly completed the story with a third goal a few minutes after Bradley’s, but the referee blew his whistle on the successful free kick and goal, though no one is entirely sure what he saw.

England 0, Algeria 0

Team USA can once again thank the English. The Three Lions were held scoreless and walked away with their second straight draw leaving Group C wide open. Algeria locked down English striker Wayne Rooney and the entire England team with tight defense, not allowing them a single shot on goal until 30 minutes into the game. Rooney has been held scoreless for seven straight matches and has put the country in panic mode. With the draw and the dramatic U.S. draw earlier both teams and Slovenia control their destinies, win the next game and they move on.
