Dennis Seidenberg barely got his skates under him as a Bruin last season. Now, however, he has plenty of time to acclimate to Boston.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound defenseman was signed to a four-year contract extension Saturday, GM Peter Chiarelli announced. Seidenberg was acquired from Florida on March 3 and skated in 17 games for the Bruins before suffering a lacerated tendon in his forearm with four games remaining in the season, knocking him out for the year.
As a member of the Bruins, Seidenberg notched two goals and seven assists, but his 2009-10 season totals were some of his best ever. The defenseman set personal records in games played (79), assists (28) and points (32). He also led the NHL with 215 blocked shots on the season.
In seven seasons, the 28-year-old German has compiled 18 goals and 98 assists for 116 career points.
Seidenberg came from the Panthers with Matt Bartkowski in the trade that sent Craig Weller, Byron Bitz, and a 2010 second-round draft pick to Florida.
Terms of the contract extension were not disclosed.
