The Jets are apparently interested in the services of perhaps the biggest bust in the history of the NFL.
According to ESPN New York’s Rich Cimini, the Jets have inquired about the possibility of signing former Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell.
Russell — the first overall pick in the 2007 draft — was recently let go by the Raiders after failing again and again to live up to expectations as well as failing and failing again to control his weight. Russell was reportedly up to 300 pounds when he was let go by the Raiders.
Cimini reports that the Jets are in the market for a backup quarterback and that they’re also interested in obtaining the services of 39-year-old Mark Brunell. Reports surfaced on Tuesday that Brunell is not only bankrupt, but owes $24.7 million most of which came from loans.
Hopefully the Jets decide to give Brunell a chance to start paying back some of his debt, but if they decide to give the 300-pound Russell a second chance, at least starting quarterback Mark Sanchez will have someone to eat hot dogs with.
