Despite having a career day at the plate on Tuesday night, catcher Victor Martinez is getting some rest on Wednesday against Ben Sheets and the A's.

Martinez has been bothered by an injured foot lately but was able to produce five hits (including four doubles) in the Red Sox' 9-4 win.

With V-Mart on the bench, Jason Varitek will call the game for Daisuke Matsuzaka. The righty, who is pitching on an extra day of rest, walked eight batters his last time out. He is 2-1 with a 4.21 ERA in his career against Oakland.

Varitek, meanwhile, is a .254 career hitter against the A's but is batting .323 at Fenway Park this season.

This Sox lineup has limited experience against Sheets, who played for the Brewers in his first eight seasons leading up to this one. J.D. Drew (31 at-bats) has the most plate appearances against the former ace and boasts a .290 average with four homers and seven RBIs.

Mike Lowell (18 at-bats) has a .278 BA and five RBIs against Sheets but is starting this contest on the bench. Adrian Beltre, who is 23 of his last 51 with 16 RBIs, is 4-for-15 (.267) in his career against Sheets and has struck out five times.

Here are Wednesday's lineups:
