John Isner and Nicolas Mahut Marathon Match Suspended for Darkness at Wimbledon

American John Isner and Frenchman Nicolas Mahut left the court for the second day in a row without a winner, as they remain tied 59-59 in the fifth set of their first-round match at Wimbledon.

Isner and Mahut will resume play on Thursday.

The match has now eclipsed the 10-hour mark. The fifth set alone has taken more time than any full match in this year's tournament. The match has broken almost every record for match length available, including the longest match in Wimbledon history, the longest match in tennis history, and the most aces in a match.

Break points have been scarce in the decisive fifth set, with Isner and Mahut combining for a measly five break points in 118 games.

The match's length stretched Wimbledon’s technical infrastructure. On court, a scoreboard outage forced fans to listen to the umpire for the
up-to-date score information.

The on-line scoreboard at wimbledon.org reset its reporting after a cumulative 100 games in the fifth set, turning both competitors' games won from 50 each to zero each. The Wimbledon technical team worked around the issue by asking its users to "please add 50 to the Isner/Mahut game score in SlamTracker. Awesome!"
