Jon Lester Continues Dominant Stretch With Complete Game Defeat of Giants   As the injuries continue to amount around him, Jon Lester continues to be a rock for the Red Sox.

On a day that saw yet another Red Sox player go down with an injury — this time, Victor Martinez — Lester turned in another gem on his way to defeating the Giants 5-1 in the finale of a three-game series in San Francisco.

Lester went the distance for the Red Sox giving up the lone run on five hits while striking out nine. The left-hander is now 9-1 in his last 13 starts with an AL-leading 2.11 ERA during that stretch. This was also his second complete game in that span.

Lester was able to step up to the challenge of taking the hill opposite two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum

“It’s nice just to get a win,” Lester told Heidi Watney on W.B. Mason’s Red Sox Extra Innings. “Obviously he didn’t have his great stuff today, and it would have been nice to go back-and-forth and see what we could do. It’s just nice to get a win against these guys and have a decent road trip.”
