First-Round Pick Kolbrin Vitek Calls NESN, Excited to Join Red Sox The Boston Red Sox selected second baseman Kolbrin Vitek with their No. 20 pick in this year’s MLB draft, following it up with selections of Bryce Bentz and Anthony Ranaudo in the compensatory round.

The newest Red Sox wowed NESN insider Dennis Eckersley with his confidence.

“I was very excited,” Vitek said about receiving the call that he was a Red Sox. “When [the Red Sox] called me, they were talking to me as a third baseman. Third base is my projectable position, I feel.”

While Vitek will have to learn third base, it’s offense that got Vitek drafted, and offense that the youngster seemed most excited about.

Vitek took batting practice at Fenway Park while being scouted, and he said he put a few hits over the Green Monster but loves the deep right field as well.

“I love shooting the ball the other way and running, and Fenway allows for that,” Vitek added.
