For the second time in just over a week, pop singer Lady Gaga caused quite the stir in the Big Apple. This time, the 24-year-old recording artist decided to take her antics across town and generate a buzz at Yankee Stadium
According to the New York Post, the unique performer is permanently banned from the Yankees clubhouse due to her bizarre behavior following Saturday’s Yankees-Mets game.
The New York native, accompanied by two girlfriends, apparently made her way down to the team’s clubhouse after the Bronx Bombers completed a 5-3 victory. Wearing a half-open Yankees jersey that exposed her black bra and bikini bottom, Lady Gaga reportedly polished off some Jameson Irish Whiskey and repeatedly groped her chest in front of the players.
Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano were among those who got the full Gaga experience, as she confessed to them her love for the team and her excitement over getting to the restricted area.
Perhaps Mariano Rivera should have shut the door on the controversial star like he did to the New York Mets on the field minutes earlier.
The fiasco prompted part-owner Hal Steinbrenner to throw on his own “poker face” and ban her from the clubhouse.
According to the New York Daily News, though, Yankees GM Brian Cashman said that Lady Gaga is not banned and the team is said to have no issue with anything that transpired.
On June 11, Lady Gaga made the sports pages for her odd behavior at Citi Field, home of the Mets, during their game against the San Diego Padres.
In what can only be described as unlady-like behavior, Gaga threw a tirade on photographers, threw down some cold ones and then eventually threw the crowd the double-bird. What added to the peculiarity of the situation was Gaga’s choice of clothing – or lack thereof.
In the wake of all the buzz, the New York Mets have already decided to use the incident as a marketing opportunity.
According to the New York Times, the team will host a “Mets Fans Go Gaga for Wright” promotion. The first 20,000 in attendance will receive an oversized blue foam finger that encourages fans to use a more appropriate finger to vote online for David Wright to be in next month’s All-Star game.
For the Mets, the old saying rings true: If you can’t beat Gaga, you might as well join her.
