Red Sox Shuffle Lineup to Make Up for Absence of Dustin Pedroia

Darnell McDonald will bat second for the second time with the Red Sox and Bill Hall will take over at second base for the injured Dustin Pedroia as a banged-up Boston team takes on San Francisco on Saturday night.

Pedroia was injured when he fouled a ball off his left foot in the third inning of a 5-4 loss Friday night. The team said that X-rays did not reveal a broken bone but that more tests would be taken to determine the severity of the injury.

The loss of Pedroia forces another shuffle to a constantly alternating lineup.

All but 11 of McDonald's 158 at-bats have taken place in the bottom third of the lineup. Daniel Nava, who batted second the last two nights, is dropped to sixth and Hall will bat seventh and start at second for the third time in 2010.

The Sox were expecting to be able to put right fielder J.D. Drew back in there for the first time since last Friday when he hurt his right hamstring, but with the Giants calling up left-hander Madison Bumgarner to make the start, Drew will sit again.

Here is the latest patchwork lineup for Boston:

1. Marco Scutaro, SS
2. Darnell McDonald, RF
3. Victor Martinez, C
4. Kevin Youkilis, 1B
5. Adrian Beltre, 3B
6. Daniel Nava, LF
7. Bill Hall, 2B
8. Mike Cameron, CF
9. Clay Buchholz, P
