Roush Fenway Racing is looking forward to its return to the Michigan International Speedway this weekend.
In 22 years of existence, Roush Fenway has had more success at MIS than any other track on the NASCAR circuit. The organization has 11 Sprint Cup Series wins at the D-shaped track, most in team history.
All in all, Roush Fenway has collected 20 wins, 72 top-five finishes, 117 top-10s and six poles, while leading almost 3,000 laps in combined NASCAR competition at MIS.
Perhaps it is the home-field advantage that gives Roush Fenway such an edge. Team owner Jack Roush’s Roush Industries is just down the road in Livonia, Mich.
"All of our wins at MIS have been special," said Roush. "It is good to race in front of the home crowd where all of our friends and people we like to have supporting us are paying attention."
After being founded in 1988, Roush Fenway Racing needed just three years to win its first race at Michigan, when Mark Martin took the checkered flag in the No. 6 Ford in August 1990.
Martin was the first of nine different drivers to win for Roush Fenway in NASCAR action at MIS, and the first of five drivers to win in the Cup Series for Roush Fenway at Michigan. Three of the other four – Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards – will drive in the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 on Sunday.
Roush Fenway has 11 wins in the Sprint Cup Series at MIS, four in the Nationwide Series and five in the trucks.
Jack Roush would like nothing more than to see his team’s hot streak at home continue.
"I hope we will be able to break through at MIS and win again," said Roush. "I would love to get Ford’s 12th win there [as a car owner]."
