Tim Wakefield Sets Record for Most Innings Pitched as Red Sox Kevin Youkilis
was thrilled to come away with a win against Cleveland on Tuesday night despite needing an error to score three unearned runs.

“A lot of times, you give the opposition one more chance and it’s huge,” Youkilis told Heidi Watney on Red Sox Extra Innings. “We capitalized on it.”

A big reason why the Red Sox came away with the 3-2 victory had to do with starter Tim Wakefield‘s effort. The knuckleballer went 7 1/3 innings, whiffing six and walking none in a gem of a start that saw him set the record for most innings pitched by a Red Sox pitcher.

“He goes out there and he works hard,” Youkilis says. “He’s a competitor, and he doesn’t have those 99 mph [fastballs], but he knows how to throw these knuckleballs.

“We’re proud of him. We’ll take it every night.”
