“A lot of times, you give the opposition one more chance and it’s huge,” Youkilis told Heidi Watney on Red Sox Extra Innings. “We capitalized on it.”
A big reason why the Red Sox came away with the 3-2 victory had to do with starter Tim Wakefield‘s effort. The knuckleballer went 7 1/3 innings, whiffing six and walking none in a gem of a start that saw him set the record for most innings pitched by a Red Sox pitcher.
“He goes out there and he works hard,” Youkilis says. “He’s a competitor, and he doesn’t have those 99 mph [fastballs], but he knows how to throw these knuckleballs.
“We’re proud of him. We’ll take it every night.”
