Toddler at Phillies Game Seen Drinking From Beer Bottle On Camera

Attend a Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park, and you will see some of the most passionate fans in the major leagues.

You also will see some of the dumbest.

The latest atrocious act comes from Monday night’s game between the Phillies and Padres, when TV cameras caught a little boy taking a swig from what appears to be a beer bottle.

The boy looks like he could be 3 or 4 years old, and there doesn’t seem to be any parental supervision while the kid takes a drink from the bottle.

Phillies spokeswoman Bonnie Clark suggested that the incident appears to be "a very brief event, probably involving an empty bottle," The Associated Press reports.

"Obviously, the Phillies, like everyone else, would not want a child to be permitted to consume any alcoholic beverage," Clark said. "We are confident that our employees and our fans would not allow this to happen if they were aware of it."

The Phillies’ public relations department already had enough on their hands this year, following two separate fan-related incidents that raised a stir in the national media.

In April, a drunken fan responded to his friend being thrown out of the game by vomiting on a little girl and her father.

In May, police used a Taser to subdue a teenage fan that ran onto the field of play.

In this case, there is no conclusive evidence to show whether the child was drinking alcohol. The bottle could have been empty, or the boy’s guardian could have washed it out and filled it with water after using it.

Either way, the incident comes at a bad time for a Phillies organization that is struggling in 2010.
