World Cup Day 5 Roundup: Brazil Controls Match Against North Korea

World Cup Day 5 Roundup: Brazil Controls Match Against North Korea The fifth day of the World Cup marks the end of Group G play, with a couple of surprises.

New Zealand earned its first World Cup point by tying 1-1 with Slovakia, Ivory Coast held heavily-favored Portugal to a scoreless draw, and Brazil dominated North Korea en route to a 2-1 victory.

New Zealand 1, Slovakia 1
Slovakia played with poise and seemingly had New Zealand beat, until Winston Reid tied it up 1-all with an injury-time header.

Ivory Coast 0, Portugal 0
Neither team able to get an offensive rhythm going, Ivory Coast held heavily-favored Portugal to a scoreless draw. Cristiano Ronaldo had a chance to score, but rattled one off the left post. Gervinho gave a strong offensive performance for Ivory Coast but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Brazil 2, North Korea 1
North Korea was only able to manage two shots on goal, as Brazil dominated play for most of the match in their 2-1 victory. Maicon and Elano each tallied goals in the second half for Brazil.
