Andrew Fleming of the Seattle Sockeye has joined the likes of Dwight Clark, Santonio Holmes and David Tyree in making one of the greatest playoff catches of all time.

Also like Holmes’ and Tyree’s catches, we can only be 99 percent sure that it wasn’t a blown call even after repeatedly seeing it on replay.

But Fleming isn’t catching a football, he’s grabbing a frisbee.

Apparently, ultimate frisbee is a much bigger deal than we all thought. It has made it’s way beyond summer camp and college intramurals all the way to Prague, where the World Flying Disc Federation held the 2010 World Championships this month. It has to be a pretty big deal if American teams can afford to travel that far to play.

This catch, unsurprisingly, was made by the Sockeye player in the critical moments against Boston’s team, Ironside, whom Seattle went on to defeat.

Fleming’s dive is impressive for its extension, but the frisbee definitely hits the ground. Fleming, though, may have had possession, meaning that this would have been an incomplete catch in NFL rules in the 1990s, but a completion after the rules change in the 2000s. It is unclear how frisbee treats such incidents.

Boston may have gotten unlucky here, but at least they were avenged, as Seattle went on to lose in the finals of the event.

Comment of the day

News that the Boston Bruins are interested in Bill Guerin got B’s fans debating about whether or not to focus on next year or the future.

“I dont
know about anyone else but I want to see a stanley cup in boston NOW!
Everyone who wants to keep Wheeler has the same arguement, dont give up a
young guy who has potential for an old washer up player. Apparently it
makes sense to keep a kid who we have seen play like a pee wee at
critical times for this team for the last 2 years and not go after a guy
who has a ton of valuable experience, 2 stanley cups and he has
consistanley proven himself to be a goal scorer even at the age of 39.
We have a group of very promising young
talent(colborne, caron, knight, marchand, hamill) in the system and we can
afford to let him go. Guerin has exectly what we need on the ice and in
the locker room to finally take this team to the promise land. Let
Wheeler go, trade or dump ference and get Geurin so we can have the cup
back in Boston now!”

Crazed soccer fans running onto the pitch is nothing new, but usually the streakers are naked and having a good time, not delivering karate jump-kicks and throwing punches. Apparently, this has turned into a very serious problem in the Chinese league.
