In a field of some seriously talented starting pitchers, David Price and Ubaldo Jimenez have been deemed the best by their All-Star managers, as the two will start for the American League and National League, respectively, on Tuesday night.
It's hard to find fault in the decisions by Joe Girardi and Charlie Manuel, as Price (12-4, 2.42 ERA) leads the AL in ERA and wins while Jimenez (15-1, 2.20 ERA) has been absolutely scintillating this season, highlighted by his no-hitter in April.
Relegated to the bullpen will be Jon Lester (11-3, 2.78 ERA, 124 SO), Andy Petitte (11-2, 2.70 ERA), Phil Hughes (11-2, 3.65 ERA) and Cliff Lee (8-4, 2.64 ERA, 91 SO, 6 BB) for the AL. In the NL, Josh Johnson (9-3, 1.70 ERA, 123 SO), Tim Hudson (9-4, 2.30 ERA) and Adam Wainwright (13-5, 2.11 ERA, 127 SO) were passed over for the starting job.
