Friday's CT Scans brought the exact results that Red Sox fans wanted to see — significant healing for both Dustin Pedroia and Jason Varitek.

Pedroia ran and took ground balls prior to Friday's game, and Varitek is off crutches and set to remove his walking boot on Saturday, according to ESPN.com.

"It'll be important to see how he bounces back because the idea is
certainly to build [strength]," Terry Francona said of Pedroia. "We don't want him to run
out there for a couple of days and then get hurt. He's gonna have to be
real honest, because if it hurts, he needs to back off. If it doesn't
[hurt], they have no qualms with him continuing to progress."

"He felt good, so that's good news," added Francona.

As for Varitek, Francona was equally optimistic: "He'll start doing as much of the activities he'll be able to tolerate."

Getting a star second baseman and team captain back is pretty much the best deadline move that Sox fans could ask for. That looks to be a likely scenario.
