The Red Sox may see a familiar face in the clubhouse soon with the potential return of injured outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona told ESPN.com that Ellsbury has begun throwing and may be ready to resume baseball activities. If he is able, he could rejoin the team as early as this weekend in Toronto.

Ellsbury has played only nine games this season and was placed on the DL after sustaining fractured ribs in a collision with third baseman Adrian Beltre back in April.

An official decision on Ellsbury’s return was expected Tuesday.
