What was initially supposed to be a two- or three-game break from the field has turned into a stint on the DL for Jason Bay. The Mets outfielder was placed on the 15-day DL on Friday, retroactive to July 26.

After crashing into the left field wall at Dodger Stadium on July 23, Bay appeared to be shaken up but continued to play the remainder of the game and the weekend series in Los Angeles. It wasn't until the plane ride back to New York that Bay started complaining of dull headaches and was diagnosed with a mild concussion.

Bay was taken out of the lineup earlier in the week for precautionary reasons and was evaluated by the team doctor. At the time, Mets manager Jerry Manuel presumed Bay would only be out of the lineup for a few days tops. As of Friday, however, Bay was still experiencing headaches and other concussion symptoms and landed on the DL.

"I'm hopeful here in the next couple of days that he wakes up and doesn't have those symptoms," Manuel told ESPN.com.

In replacement of Bay, the Mets have called up Jesus Feliciano from their Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo. This is the second trip up to the majors Feliciano has made this season, as he was with the squad before Carlos Beltran's return. He batted .291 with two RBIs in 21 games with the Mets.

Bay has posted a .259 batting average with 6 homers and 47 RBIs this season.
