Report: Celtics May Have Interest in Bringing Back Delonte West

Delonte West was an instrumental piece of the Celtics’ 2008 championship season, even though he never donned the green and white uniform that year.

That’s because West was shipped to Seattle before the 2008 campaign for Ray Allen, and Allen helped lead the C’s on the court toward their first championship banner in 22 years.

Now, Boston may be interested in reacquiring the 27-year-old guard, sources told The Boston Globe.

West was shipped from his latest team, Cleveland, to Minnesota on Monday in a four-player deal. With the Timberwolves expected to waive West, the Celtics could be a potential suitor for the defensive-minded combo guard.

West averaged 8.8 points and 3.3 assists in just 25 minutes per game for the Cavaliers in 2009-10. He played three seasons with the Celtics from 2004 to 2007, and averaged a career-high 12.2 points for Boston in the 2006-07 season.

With Tony Allen signing with Memphis, West could be a good fit backing up both Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen in the backcourt. West would be fairly cheap for his production, too. He’d be due $500,000 if waived before Aug. 5, and the Celtics could offer him a minimum salary of $1.06 million for a player with six years of experience.
