According to The Boston Globe, Clay Buchholz is expected to be placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a strained hamstring. The move will be retroactive to June 27, and he will be eligible to return after the All-Star break on July 15.
As a result, the 25-year-old right-hander will only miss a couple of starts.
Buchholz, who was named to his first All-Star team, already has pitched 91 innings this season, so the move to the DL will allow him to rest both his leg and arm.
Buchholz was injured running the bases against the Giants in San Francisco on June 26, but the injury is not considered serious.
“I don’t feel anything jogging or throwing,” Buchholz told the Globe. “It’s been going from a jog to a sprint, and there’s still a little tightness. We’re still throwing on flat ground every day to get a little bit more time.”
Buchholz will join Dustin Pedroia, Josh Beckett, Jacoby Ellsbury, Manny Delcarmen, Jeremy Hermida, Mike Lowell, and Jason Varitek on the DL.
