Report: Red Sox Likely to Stand Pat at Deadline

A Red Sox blockbuster doesn't appear to be in the cards.

According to a baseball source, Theo Epstein isn't close to making any major deals prior to the trade deadline, but is likely to shake up the bullpen, ESPN.com reports. Michael Bowden will likely return to the roster, and Felix Doubront may be back as a reliever, as well.

Acquiring an arm from waivers may also occur, according to ESPN.com.

Other MLB GMs seem to be very aware of two facts: The Red Sox desperately need a reliever, and Boston's minor league system is stacked.

As a result, asking prices for reliable bullpen arms have been such that any moves would put the Red Sox on the losing end.

Accordingly, Epstein rightfully seems unwilling to sacrifice the future, particularly for a temporary solution.
