Team Formula Flug Wins Miami Red Bull Flugtag as Competition Returns to American Soil The Red Bull Flugtag (German for “flight day”) took place in Miami’s Bayfront Park as the competition took place on American soil for the first time since 2008.

For those who are not familiar, the “flugtag” is a competition between human-powered flight vehicles, meaning that no form of external propulsion is legal. Teams take off from a 30-foot platform, often in “aircrafts” that resemble parade floats. In this competition, Team Formula Flug took off in a craft that was designed to resemble a formula one race car. James Stewart, the motocross star (not the deceased actor), also took part in the competition, but came up short. The North American record of 155 feet, though, still belongs to Team Rocky Top Rocket, whose craft took the form of a giant banjo with a hang glider perched on top.
