Luis Suarez Red Card Goes Down as Greatest Illegal Act in Soccer History There’s no other way to put it for Uruguay: It was the greatest red card in the history of soccer.

For Ghana, it was a stomach-punching loss that could rival Superbowl XLII.

Ghana’s Dominic Adiyiah appeared to head home the game-winner in the final seconds of extra time in Friday’s quarterfinal match between “The Black Stars” and Uruguay. But Luis Suarez, in an act of pure desperation, batted the ball away from the goal line.

The referee rightfully gave the Uruguayan striker a red card and awarded Ghana a penalty kick, but Ghana’s star striker Asamoah Gyan drove the potential winning goal into the crossbar. Suarez, sitting on the sidelines in tears, immediately turned to ecstasy. His soccer crime suddenly made him the hero.

His squad went on to win the match in a penalty shootout just minutes later. For Ghana, widely seen as representing all of Africa in the tournament, heartbreak could not have come in a more brutal fashion.

As the Red Sox continue their winning ways despite injury woes, the Nation is showing its appreciation for the role players who are stepping up.

“WHY am I not surprised that Cameron was out b/c of another abdomen issue?? Anyways… great win for Sox. Cash did pretty good tonight catching Wake. I hope this Molina guy (or whatever the name is of the other new Sox catcher) does just as good of a job behind the plate when we do see him.Anyone else agree that Hall is not that bad of a 2nd baseman? This guy is VERSATILE! Infielder, outfielder, emergency pitcher… what’s next? Catcher? And I was luckily WRONG when I said that Youk could be the next guy to go on the DL when he came up lame in the fifth (?) inning.”

Nearly a decade prior to the release of hits Superbad, Knocked Up, Pineapple Express and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Judd Apatow, James Franco, Seth Rogen, and Jason Segel created Freaks and Geeks, an ode to the growing pains of high school circa the 1980s. Critics loved the show, but the many future stars just weren’t quite as funny as they’d grow to be.

Likewise, Tyler Seguin may be a raw talent, but critics agree: This guy is going to be a star.

Before Seguin hits the NHL ice, check out James Franco’s awkward phase.
