The Los Angeles Clippers have built a strong core of young players and a local college standout is looking to become a part of that core.
Former University of Vermont forward Marqus Blakely just wrapped a pretty successful summer league season with the Clippers.
The former UVM standout averaged 7.0 points and 4.8 rebounds for the Clippers while shooting a team-best 65 percent from the floor in four games.
The 6-foot-5 Blakely had a sensational senior season for the Catamounts. He averaged 17.3 points and 9.3 rebounds, including posting 24 points and 18 rebounds in the American East Conference championship game against Boston University.
It’s Blakely’s athleticism and versatility, though, that make him an intriguing possibility for teams at the next level.
“Blakely is probably the best athlete on the roster, which is saying something since several of these guys are big-time athletes,” Clipsnation.com said of Blakely’s summer league performance. “He brought some intensity to the Clippers on defense and on the offensive glass, and he has a real chance to make the team in November. He’s already got his camp invite.”
Blakely’s effort and intensity could be a good fit to a Clippers team headed by new coach Vinny del Negro as the organization looks to start over once again.
