The injury status of Red Sox starting catcher Victor Martinez is still questionable, much to the frustration of the team and fans alike. However, Martinez insists his recovery is moving in the right direction.

When asked by reporters, Martinez said that the X-ray of his fractured left thumb showed progress, according to WEEI.com.

"It shows it got a lot better," he said. "I think from this point it’s just seeing how it feels every day. Hopefully I can wake up tomorrow with no pain. I’m just taking it day by day and just seeing how it feels."

Martinez tested the thumb while taking swings during Thursday's pregame, and said he still felt tenderness in the thumb.

"I swung the bat from the left side, it was pretty good, pretty normal. It’s pretty hard from the right side," the catcher said.

While there's still no timetable for Martinez' return, he is hopeful that the pain will subside over the next few days.
