What Big Event Will Fenway Park Host Next?

What Big Event Will Fenway Park Host Next? It wasn't all that long ago that the only thing you could see at Fenway Park was a Boston Red Sox baseball game.

Of course, it hasn't been that way exclusively since 1912, with the Patriots and local college football teams calling Fenway home from time to time. In the past decade, however, the Red Sox' ownership group has utilized Fenway in a way never previously imagined.

The oldest active stadium in baseball began its revitalization in 2003, when Bruce Springsteen came to Boston that summer. Since then, Jimmy Buffett, The Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band and others have rocked Fenway, with Aerosmith set to join the crowd in August.

Setting up a massive stage on the outfield is an impressive feat, but what took place last winter was truly incredible. Fenway Park was transformed into an outdoor skating rink, with the Bruins beating the Flyers in overtime on New Year's Day. A week later, Boston University narrowly edged crosstown rival Boston College on a snowy January night. For those watching on TV, it was a sight to behold, but for those in attendance, it was an unforgettable experience.

On Wednesday night, the soccer chapter of Fenway's history will be reopened as Celtic FC takes on Sporting Clube de Portugal. It will be the first soccer match at Fenway since 1968, and it again will provide yet another memorable moment in the long tradition of the Red Sox' home.

The utilization of Fenway this decade begs the question: What will be the next big event to take place at Fenway Park? If hockey is possible, what isn't?

One possibility remains sports of the pugilistic variety. With the explosion of popularity with MMA, and with the president of the UFC being a New England native, it seems that an ultimate fighting event would sell out in mere minutes. If not, as Miguel Cotto showed last month at Yankee Stadium, boxing can still work in large venues in the Northeast.

With Celtic FC in town, why not let the Boston Celtics in on the fun, too? The logistics would be hard to figure out, but the leprechaun logo would look perfect inside of Fenway's green walls.

There are obviously a tremendous amount of other options, some more realistic than others. So what do you think will be the next big event to be held at America's Most Beloved Ballpark/Concert Hall/Hockey Rink?
