While Justin Morneau and Robinson Cano are among the usual suspects in the race for the AL Batting Title, Adrian Beltre’s current .346 mark is his first over .300 since 2004, and only his second ever.
While Cano is no stranger to hitting for a high average (his career mark is .310,making him one of 17 active players who have hit over .300 for their entire MLB tenure), his current .347 tally is his best ever, surpassing the .342 mark that he posted in 2006.
Beltre’s move to Boston has lead to an offensive revival for the third baseman, who struggled at the plate during his tenure in Seattle. A career .274 hitter, fans have to be surprised with Beltre’s productivity at the plate. Perhaps even more impressive than his jump in average, Beltre’s OPS is up .251 this year, from .683 to .934
Morneau has twice before hit .300, but the former AL MVP’s career average is actually only .285. This year, his .343 average is by far his best ever, and his OPS is an astronomical 1.045.
