Will You Stay Up Late to Watch Red Sox’ West Coast Games?

Will You Stay Up Late to Watch Red Sox' West Coast Games? It's that time of the year again for the Red Sox to head West and play a trio of AL West foes.

With that, though, comes the realization that not everybody works in the Eastern daylight time zone. With the Red Sox heading to the West Coast for a 10-game trip (the first of two 10-game trips this season), eight of those games will feature a first pitch of 10:05 p.m. ET or later.

Red Sox Nation's East Coast residents ask themselves the same question each year: "Do I stay up late and watch the game, proving my undying allegiance or do I go to sleep and make sure I'm well-rested for work or school in the morning?"

With no clock governing the game, it can make for an incredibly long night (or more appropriately, early morning) if a West Coast contest happens to go into extra innings. And of course, if you've stayed up through all nine innings, what's wrong with staying up for another two or three?

Sure, that PowerPoint presentation you have for your 10 a.m. meeting the next morning may suffer, but it's a special kind of accomplishment to stay up late and watch your team grind it out into the wee hours of the morning.

But with success comes failure. There's not much worse than staying up all night, only to see the home town team lose a lead late, effectively rendering your late-night efforts useless. Everyone who stayed up for it, remembers the 12-inning heartbreaker the Red Sox lost in Game 1 of the 2003 ALDS in Oakland.

It's a tough decision to make. It's all about prioritizing. What's more important: your livelihood, your job, your health — or proving that you are truly a superfan and living and dying with every pitch, even if it means going to work with bloodshot eyes in the morning?

So do you plan on staying up late to watch the Red Sox as they head out to the West Coast?
