Addition of Pitcher Michael Bowden May Give Red Sox Bullpen Versatility With Jacoby Ellsbury heading to the disabled list, the Red Sox had to make a corresponding roster move, and with the return of Dustin Pedroia imminent for early this week, the Sox decided to go with another pitcher.

The team recalled Michael Bowden, who was up with the team earlier in the year, has re-joined the team in Texas and is hoping to provide the team with some bullpen depth that they certainly could use.

The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham was a guest Saturday night on Red Sox GameDay Live and said that the Red Sox see Bowden as a potential seventh- or eighth-inning reliever for the team.
