The Red Sox may have already won the three-game series against the Angels — they've also taken nine of 10 games from them this season — but Los Angeles outfielder Torii Hunter is just glad his team salvaged a win in Thursday's series finale at Fenway Park.
Hunter, who went 3-for-4 on the night with a double and a run scored, said the Angels had a meeting earlier in the day to try to ignite their offense for the matchup against Red Sox starter Josh Beckett. The meeting obviously worked, as the Angels earned a 7-2 victory over Boston.
"That was key," Hunter told NESN's Heidi Watney of the victory. "They already won the series, we just didn't want to get swept. I think we've been playing dead the last four or five games and it seemed like we didn't have any motivation. But we had a meeting today and cleaned some things up."
Hunter also spoke about how formidable Beckett was early in the matchup, and how it was important for the Angels to get hits early on the starter.
"Beckett was nice through the first couple innings," Hunter said. "We just came through with some big runs."
