FOXBORO, Mass. — Twelve days before the start of the regular season, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady remains without a contract extension, and head coach Bill Belichick refused to specifically address Brady's situation.
"Everybody that is out there is under contract," Belichick said, in some shape or form, three times Tuesday.
Brady is in the final season of his $60 million, six-year deal, and there has been no substantial evidence suggesting the franchise quarterback is close to signing an extension. Reports have indicated Brady doesn’t want to deal with contract negotiations during the season. If true, that means there are just a dozen days left for No. 12 to iron out the most important contract in Patriots history.
Yet, Belichick expressed no concern when asked about the ramifications of Brady entering the regular season without a long-term contract.
"There are a lot of players on our team that are in the last year of their contract," Belichick said. "There are a lot of players on every team that are in the last year of their contract. That’s not an unprecedented situation."
