Carl Edwards has been one of the hottest drivers in NASCAR over the last six weeks.

Edwards and the No. 99 Aflac team, currently sixth in Chase points, need to gain 125 points on the 13th place team this Saturday at Bristol Motor Speedway in order to clinch a spot in the Chase.

When he left New Hampshire Motor Speedway at the end of June, Edwards was 12th in points, leaving many wondering whether or not the Roush Fenway driver would be able to qualify for the Chase.

But thanks to a recent hot streak over the last six races, in which Edwards has not finished outside of the top seven, he’s moved up six spots in the standings and gained more points than any other driver during that stretch.

Edwards has a 266-point lead over 13th, and he needs a 391-point gap by the end of the weekend to qualify.

"We are going into Bristol with a good points cushion so we can be more aggressive there," Edwards said. "We still have to race smart and get as many points as we can to clinch a spot. Bristol is the battle, but the war is the Chase. We need to be in the Chase."
