First baseman Carlos Delgado seems to have hit a speed bump in his road back to the major leagues.
While Delgado isn't as much rehabbing as he is re-finding his game, he's still trying to work his way back to the majors with the Red Sox and prove he's healthy. That's going to be tougher to do, though, after Delgado left Sunday's game with Triple-A Pawtucket after feeling discomfort in his back and hip.
"It bothered me enough that I couldn't rotate very well so I came out
and got treatment," he said after the game. "It's been sore the last couple of days. We
didn't make much of it but it [got to a point] I had to come out.
Hopefully I'll get [treatment], see where it is [Monday] and go from
there."
The hip pains Delgado were experiencing were on the left side of his body, opposite his right hip that had ended his Mets career before working back to sign a minor-league deal with the Red Sox.
Delgado is hitting .231 in 13 at-bats since being assigned to Triple-A Patwucket. The Red Sox will have to decide by Sept. 1 if they're going to promote Delgado to Boston, otherwise, he has the option of voiding his contract with the team.
