While he may miss the first few games of the regular season due to injury, the fact that Cleveland Browns tackle Shaun Rogers was found with a loaded gun in his luggage at Hopkins International Airport in April did not warrant a suspension from the NFL.
Instead, the NFL has fined Rogers a one-game check — approximately $400,000 — for violating the league's personal conduct policy, as announced on Tuesday. Rogers was arrested for the incident but reached a deal last month with prosecutors to have the felony charges dropped against him as long as he completes a diversion program.
Though it seems like a serious enough offense to warrant such a fine, Rogers is appealing the NFL's decision.
"How's it better?" Rogers said when asked if he thought the punishment was fair, according to ESPN.com. "Well, I'm still losing money. I don't play for free."
Rogers has not participated in the Browns' training camp this summer due to an ankle injury that ended his season after 11 games in 2009. He is currently on the physically unable to perform list.
