Gilbert, of course, was joking and the team unveiled the new jerseys that now feature block lettering rather than the script writing on uniforms of the past. The uniforms are also a deeper wine color, and sport a brighter gold hue on the letters and piping.
One of Cleveland's legends, Austin Carr (also known as Mr. Cavalier), was on hand to help with the unveiling. Carr instilled a new hope for the future of the organization without LeBron, fondly remembering his playing days when the Cavs sported a similar color scheme as the 2010-2011 squad.
"We were 12 men deep," Carr said of his 1970's team. "You knew every night we were going to play 100 percent. Nobody was going to quit."
Carr just shrugged off the obvious dig at LeBron, since he has publicly disapproved the way the James left Cleveland. A number one draft pick himself, Carr admits he may have pulled the same move as LeBron had the offer been on the table, but would have done so in a more respectable manner.
"As an ex-player, I might have left myself," Carr confessed. "So I don't begrudge him for that. But the way he did it was unprofessional and uncalled for."
The rest of the night was devoted to looking forward and speculating about the season ahead for the Cavs. The team will have its chance to take revenge on their former superstar on Dec. 2, when the Miami Heat travels to Cleveland for the first matchup since 'The Decision.'
