Source: Dustin Pedroia's Season Over Following Latest Setback It’s not exactly what Red Sox Nation wants to hear, but it may be what’s best for Boston second baseman Dustin Pedroia.

NESN insider Amalie Benjamin called into Thursday’s edition of NESN Daily to provide insight on the latest injury updates surrounding Pedroia. He has been put back in a protective boot for a week, where doctors will then determine whether he needs season-ending surgery.

From Benjamin’s eyes, she believes Pedroia is done for the 2010 season, but there is a silver lining to the news.

“Surgery is not the worst thing,” Benjamin said. “It certainly means this is the end of his season this year, but it wouldn’t take any longer than three months for him to rehab. He is expected to be perfectly fine once spring training rolls around. This is not good news for the Red Sox, but it’s not entirely unexpected.”
