Harry Caray Critiques Michael Jordan's Baseball Swing From Way Back When It’s hard to believe that it was 16 years ago already that basketball great Michael Jordan became minor league baseball player Michael Jordan.

With ESPN devoting a short film in its 30 for 30 series to Jordan’s brief baseball career following his first retirement from basketball, why not re-visit that interesting career move on Jordan’s behalf?

Check out this video, a pregame interview with Jordan and longtime Cubs announcer, the late Harry Caray. The great Caray begins the interview by telling MJ that seeing him play baseball is “the biggest thrill of my life.” He of course goes on to add, though, that he has “… deducted that hitting a baseball is [Jordan’s] biggest problem.”

Classic Harry Caray.

Michael Jordan’s minor league baseball days also give us the opportunity to bring up Red Sox manager Terry Francona who had the chance to manage Jordan with the Double-A Birmingham Barons. Watch this video, with a younger Francona talking about Jordan’s luxury bus the “Jordan Cruiser.” That’s sweet.

What do you think the caption for this photo should be? Should Harry Caray have asked “His Airness” about a moonful of ribs? Leave your suggestions in the comments.

Quote of the Day

“A bold statement saying it here in Boston, but the 15,500 people that show up here tomorrow night for this fight. This will be the best live sporting event they’ve ever seen. I guarantee that.”

— UFC President Dana White talking about UFC 118 coming to Boston on Saturday night. With all of the tremendous live sporting events this city has seen in the last year, let alone ever, “bold” may be quite the understatement.

Comment of the Day

Well, Clay Buchholz is pitching tonight. According to this logic, maybe that’s the chirping of birds outside my window sounded a little bit sweeter this morning.

“Everyone gets a warm and fuzzy when clay is the starter, after that it is a tossup”

Video of the Day

Sticking with the throwback baseball, check out this video of someone with apparently way too much time on their hands re-creating Kirk Gibson‘s dramatic walk-off home run in the 1988 World Series with an old Nintendo video game. Apologies to NESN’s own Dennis Eckersley of course, for not only bringing this up, but for the lack of moss the makers of the classic video game R.B.I Baseball give him.
