Hideki Okajima Looks to End Season on High Note as Red Sox Get Healthy For the first time in a long time, no Red Sox players went on the disabled list this week.

In fact, the Sox look to be getting some players back in the near future, and September call-ups are just days away.

Both Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Eric Patterson are in the midst of rehab stints in Pawtucket. Pitcher Hideki Okajima has been activated off the DL, replacing Michael Bowden on the roster.

Okajima, who has struggled mightily this season and even pitched poorly in his Pawtucket rehab assignment, will try to end a his poor season on a high note. While his chance of retaining the eighth-inning role in favor of Daniel Bard is a distant memory, the Red Sox do need a consistent seventh-inning guy. If Okajima can pitch well, that role could be his, which would bring great stability to the pen going forward.

Jason Varitek remains out with a foot injury and will be reevaluated in the coming week. Dustin Pedroia, who will be in a boot until this coming Thursday, will soon find out whether or not his season will end in surgery or whether he will be able to make a second comeback attempt.

Jacoby Ellsbury's broken ribs will likely keep him out for the season, though there is a chance of him possibly returning.

Mike Cameron underwent season-ending surgery on Friday, but the repair of his abdominal tear at Massachusetts General Hospital was successful.

Kevin Cash also returned to the roster this past week, rejoining the Sox in favor of fellow catcher Dusty Brown.
