Red Sox fans looking for a reunion of the "Idiots" with Johnny Damon leading the charge may be out of luck.
The Red Sox reportedly claimed the outfielder off waivers on Monday afternoon, but after the Tigers' game Monday night, Damon said he's likely staying in Detroit.
"My gut and everything else tells me Detroit's the place for me," Damon told reporters, according to NBCSports.
Damon, 36, has a limited no-trade clause that allows him to veto a trade to a list of teams, one of which is the Red Sox.
The Red Sox and Tigers have a few options if Damon were open to moving. The Tigers could let the Red Sox claim the contract outright and pay him the rest of his salary. The two sides could work out a trade for Damon. Or the Tigers could simply pull him off of waivers.
