Josh Beckett Takes Responsibility for Putting Red Sox in Position to Lose

Josh Beckett Takes Responsibility for Putting Red Sox in Position to Lose Red Sox fans were no doubt upset that Josh Beckett couldn’t make an 8-2 lead hold up in Texas, but nobody was more disappointed than Beckett himself.

“I want to be part of the solution, not the problem,” Beckett told reporters shortly after the team’s 10-9 loss to the Rangers in the 11 innings.

Beckett, despite being spotted seven runs by his offense in the fourth inning, could not keep the Rangers down. In five innings, Beckett gave up six earned runs on 10 hits and a walk, serving up three homers along the way. When he left, he was still in line to pick up a win, but the bullpen couldn’t hold on to the lead. Beckett said it was his fault the team lost, not the bullpen’s.

“I wanted to keep us in a game because our bullpen shouldn’t have been put in that situation,” he said. “Tim Wakefield shouldn’t have been put in that situation if I had just done my job.”
