Julian Edelman Irritates Saints, Shines As Receiver and Punt Returner

Julian Edelman Irritates Saints, Shines As Receiver and Punt Returner Life in the NFL is not about making friends, and Julian Edelman definitely didn’t make any friends from New Orleans on Thursday night.

The second-year receiver did it all for the Patriots in their preseason opener, catching six passes for 90 yards and returning a punt for 43 yards.

NESN.com’s Jeff Howe said that Edelman “got under the skin” of the Saints in the teams’ joint practices this week, and former Patriots linebacker and current NESN Insider Ted Johnson said that’s a very good thing.

“You’re out there fighting for a job,” Johnson said. “Julian’s not out there to make friends, he’s out there to keep his job. … It’s not his job to make friends — he wants to get ’em mad.”
