LeBron James may be embracing his status as a "Public Enemy" around the country, but his hometown of Akron is still embracing the King.
At his State Farm King for Kids Bikeathon on Saturday, James was cheered by 1,000 fans as he addressed the crowd, says the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
As James' first public appearance in Ohio since "The Decision," it was unclear whether he would be booed or supported by his hometown fans whom he so blatantly spurned just one month ago. In Akron, at least, he is still king.
There were next to zero boos.
Making his first appearance at his charity event obviously put LeBron in a favorable situation for a homecoming, but that same strategy definitely didn't help him much as far as "The Decision" was concerned.
James has seemingly decided to take on the role of America's villain, referring to his Miami Heat as "Team John Dillinger" in a recent tweet about the Eddie House signing.
Dillinger, of course, was the leader of an infamous group of bank-robbers portrayed by Johnny Depp in 2009's Public Enemies.
Somewhat surprisingly, James is no such enemy in Akron.
