The Red Sox made some minor moves on Saturday, and while the promotion of Ryan Kalish may have a major impact, many Sox fans wanted more.

According to WEEI, Theo Epstein was trying, but bad luck and difficult circumstances were involved. The team reportedly targeted David DeJesus of the Kansas City Royals, but the .318 batter tore ligaments in his thumb and is now out for the season. Jayson Werth, another outfielder having a strong season, was on the Sox' wish list, but the Phillies decided to take him off of the market last week.

As for relievers, the Sox made runs at Seattle's Brandon League, Toronto's Scott Downs and Cleveland's Kerry Wood, who ended up moving to New York. Bigger names in relief pitching were unavailable.

By not making major moves, Boston preserved its highly-touted farm system. The team moved to within 5 1/2 games of the AL Wild Card with Saturday's win and Tampa Bay's loss.
