Report: Dodgers Likely Placing Manny Ramirez on Waivers This Week The latest waiver whispers have been circulating around Los Angeles, as several baseball sources are claiming the Dodgers will place outfielder Manny Ramirez on waivers this week.

It was reported by ESPN.com that the Dodgers could have placed Manny on waivers Monday, as it was his first business day off the DL, but Los Angeles decided they would not do so just yet. There are still a few kinks to work out before the actual placement goes through.

Though he has already announced this is his last season in Los Angeles, Manny could exercise his no-trade clause and veto the placement deal with a new team. This would force the Dodgers to pull him off waivers, and the team would not be allowed to trade him the rest of the season.

Sources throughout MLB say, however, that if Manny does not exercise his no-trade clause then it would be very likely we would be seeing him in a new uniform come August 31. Acquiring the 38-year-old slugger would be quite a deal for teams in need of an outfielder with offensive power. Manny’s contract deal states that any team signing him would be required to pay a prorated portion of $1.1 million, plus $3.3 million in deferred salary.

However attractive that deal may be, his roster attendance has been shaky this year, at best. And Boston fans know best that sometimes his big-league attitude can get in the way of solid contributions on the field. But that’s just Manny being Manny, right?

Ramirez has made three trips to the DL this season, and was activated on Saturday after missing 33 games due to a right calf strain. He has missed 59 total games this year due to injury. Manny missed 50 games last season with the Dodgers due to his drug suspension.

In 62 games played this season, Ramirez posts a .312 batting average with eight home runs and 39 RBIs.
