Rumors of Jim Sorgi being left off the New York Giants' roster after being injured in the team's preseason opener have come to fruition.

Sorgi was placed on injured reserve for a torn muscle in his throwing shoulder on Monday. He will be replaced by Rhett Bhomar as the team's backup quarterback, reports National Football Post.

The 29-year-old QB was drafted in the sixth round of the 2004 draft by the Colts. He has appeared in just 14 games in four seasons in Indianapolis, where he threw six touchdowns and one interception.
